Word lists differ from official game dictionaries

This is the limitation most likely to affect you, so it is worth stating plainly.

Word validity on this site comes from the ENABLE word list, which is in the public domain. It is not the official dictionary of any game. We deliberately do not use Collins or SOWPODS, NWL, TWL or OTCWL, or any published puzzle answer list, because those are proprietary.

The practical consequences:

• A word our tools accept may be rejected by a particular game.
• A word a game accepts may be missing from our lists, especially if it is new, a proper noun, or specific to one dictionary.
• Rankings and "best guess" suggestions are calculated from our own word list and reflect that list, not any official one.

If a result matters for a competitive game, check it against that game's own dictionary. Our word data sources are listed on the Credits & Licences page.

No puzzle answers

We do not publish the answer to any daily puzzle and we hold no answer list for any game. Our solvers work only from the clues you enter: they narrow a dictionary down to the words still possible. Any resemblance between a suggestion and a particular day's answer is the arithmetic working, not inside knowledge.

Wordle is a trademark of The New York Times Company. Scrabble is a trademark of Hasbro in the United States and Canada and of Mattel elsewhere. Words With Friends is a trademark of Zynga.

These names are used on this site only to describe what our tools help with. Toolhast is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to any of these companies, and we make no claim to their trademarks.

Nothing on this site is professional advice of any kind. As the site grows to include calculators and other utilities, the same limit applies: results are informational, and anything with financial, legal, medical or similar consequences should be checked with a qualified professional.
