About Toolhast

A small, deliberately boring promise: free tools that do one job well, load fast, and never send what you type to a server.

What this site is

Toolhast is a collection of free online tools. There are currently 59 published tools. Word games come first — solvers, unscramblers and letter-pattern finders — followed by text utilities and everyday calculators.

Every tool is free, needs no account, has no usage limit, and works on a phone as well as a laptop. There is no app to install and nothing to sign up for.

Who runs it

Toolhast is built and run by Omer at Al-Raziq Studio, a small independent studio in Pakistan. It is a one-person project rather than a company — there is no team, no investors and no office. If you email the site, Omer is who reads it.

That matters for a practical reason: when a tool is wrong, there is one person to fix it, and bug reports tend to get fixed in days rather than disappearing into a queue.

Why everything runs in your browser

The tools here do their work on your own device. When you type into the Wordle solver, the word list is already downloaded and the filtering happens in JavaScript on your machine. Nothing you type is uploaded, logged or stored — not because we promise to delete it, but because it never arrives in the first place.

This is a deliberate design choice, and it has three consequences:

  • Privacy by construction. There is no server-side copy of your input to leak, subpoena or mishandle.
  • Speed. Results appear as you type, because there is no network round trip between your keystroke and the answer.
  • It still works offline. Once a page has loaded, the tool keeps working even if your connection drops.

The only thing that is ever sent to a server is a message you deliberately write on the contact page.

Why the tools are free

Because they cost almost nothing to run. There is no per-user server cost to recover: the tools run on your device, and the pages themselves are static files served from a cache.

The site is intended to be supported by advertising. There are no ads yet; when they are added they will be ordinary display ads placed around the content, never between a tool and its result, never a pop-under, and never an interstitial you have to dismiss. If an ad format would get in the way of using a tool, it does not belong here.

Where the word data comes from

Word validity comes from ENABLE, a public-domain English word list compiled by Alan Beale and M. Cooper and long used by word game software. After filtering to words of 2 to 15 letters and removing offensive terms, 168,327 words are published here.

How common each word is comes from SCOWL by Kevin Atkinson, which is what lets results put everyday words ahead of obscure ones. Both are openly licensed, and the full notices are on the Credits & Licences page.

No official game dictionary is used anywhere on this site — no Collins or SOWPODS list, no NWL or TWL list, and no published answer list. Those are proprietary. The honest consequence is that a word our tools accept may be rejected by a particular game, and occasionally the reverse.

How tools get built

One at a time, and only where a tool can give a genuinely useful answer. A tool gets published when it handles the awkward cases correctly — the Wordle solver, for instance, had to get repeated letters right, which is where most solvers quietly fail — and when the page explains the thing well enough to be worth reading on its own.

Pages that exist only to rank, with a thin tool bolted on, are not the point. If a tool cannot beat what is already out there, it does not ship.
